Desiree Golbahar, LMFT is a licensed marriage and family therapist specializing in the field of addiction and recovery. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from UC San Diego and her master’s degree in clinical psychology from Antioch University of Los Angeles. Over the past 10 years, Desiree has gained experience within a wide range of populations and issues impacting children, teenagers, adults, couples, and families. Her main focus within addiction and recovery began 7 years ago when she first entered the treatment industry.
Desiree was inspired to take on her current career path as a psychotherapist as early as her teenage years, which led her to major in psychology as an undergraduate, continue onto her master’s program, and ultimately become licensed as an MFT. Desiree spent time with different populations and decided her heart was set on working in treatment centers with dual-diagnosis clients. She feels very connected to the clients and is grateful to be included in a small steppingstone on their own individual paths and journeys.
Desiree is the Clinical Director at Multi Concept Recovery and oversees the clients and clinicians across all three of our programs. Desiree’s values include compassion, empathy, ethics, and authenticity. She strives to implement her values within her professional relationships and the therapeutic alliance she develops with her clients. Her areas of specialization include working with adults who experience low self-esteem, behavioral issues, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, cultural issues, trauma, and crisis intervention. She specializes in addressing difficulty with stress management, emotion regulation, and communication skills.
Although she primarily orients from a cognitive-behavioral perspective, Desiree often incorporates psychodynamic, family systems, existential, and dialectical behavioral approaches, as well. Desiree is a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and has trained at UCLA’s OCD Clinic as a behavioral coach for clients suffering from debilitating OCD and hoarding disorders.
In her free time Desiree enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones, being active, and taking care of her dog, Charlie. She loves to travel and focus on personal growth, self-development, and empowerment. Desiree is grateful to have this opportunity in her career and is looking forward to furthering her invaluable experiences as part of our wonderful team here at MCR.
